Holderness is a treasure house of hidden
jewels and delightful contrasts. Sleepy
villages lie side by side with bustling resorts,
huge skies dominate a flat, rolling
landscape. Mediaeval churches and other
relics of the past sweeping back to pre
history jostle with towering wind turbines.

Holderness makes the perfect base for days out. Going north Bridlington and Scarborough are less than an hour away from most parts of Holderness. Both are bustling, popular towns in the classic mould of the English seaside resort. They have excellent theatres featuring top performers, with fine bustling harbours and wide sandy beaches.
Further north is the town of Whitby, which has a character all of its own. The birthplace of the famed navigator James Cook, it's also where Bram Stoker set the landfall in England of his dire villain Count Dracula, and one of the more bizarre events hosted in the town is a Dracula festival.
It's been a port of some importance for many years, and still retains the atmosphere of one.
Further inland are the North York Moors, where a steam train still runs in summer, transporting visitors through the stunningly wild countryside. It's also home to the fictional town of Aidensfield in TV's Heartbeat, which is filmed in Goathland. Despite its fame, it remains a very pretty village, with sheep performing sterling duty as environmental lawnmowers.
